How to fix your meta description length in Showit
Quick answer
In Showit, open the page, select it in the left-hand site panel, click the SEO Settings tab, and edit your Meta Description to be between 140–160 characters. Use FastaSEO to preview how it will look in search results.
How to fix it in Showit
1. Open your page in Showit
2. In the left-hand site panel, click on the specific page you want to edit — not a canvas or text box, but the page itself
3. On the right-hand panel, click the SEO Settings tab
4. If you do not see SEO Settings in the right panel, click on a different page and then click back on the page you want to edit
5. Find the Meta Description field
6. If your description is too short, add more detail about what the page offers and who it is for
7. If your description is too long, trim it down so nothing gets cut off in search results
8. Aim for 140–160 characters
9. Save and publish
10. Within Showit it can be hard to see exactly how your description will look in search results — use FastaSEO to preview how your title and meta description appear before you go live
Note
This issue has two variants — description too short (under 140 characters) and description too long (over 163 characters). The advice below covers both. If yours is too short, add more detail about the page. If it's too long, trim it so nothing gets cut off in search results.
What's the issue
FastaSEO found a page where the meta description is either under 140 characters or over 163 characters. Both cause problems — short descriptions don't give searchers enough to go on, and long ones get cut off mid-sentence in Google.
Why it matters
- Your meta description is the short paragraph under your page title in Google search results. A description that's too short leaves out important context and misses the chance to earn a click. One that's too long gets truncated — so the person searching never sees the end of it, and it can look unfinished. The sweet spot is 140–160 characters: descriptive enough to be useful, short enough to show in full.
What good looks like
A 140–160 character summary that clearly describes the page, who it's for, and what they'll get. For example: "Brand photography for female coaches and creatives in Melbourne. See the packages, process, and how to book your session."
How long this takes
Most descriptions take less than a minute to update.
