How to create a URL redirect in Showit
Quick answer
In Showit, open Site Settings, click Edit next to your domain name, click the gear icon, enter the old page slug and the destination URL, and click Add. The redirect is added to your list instantly.
How to fix it in Showit
1. Step 1 — Open Site Settings. In the Showit Design App, go to the Site panel on the left and click the Site Settings button to open the Site Settings panel. Note: you must have a custom domain connected to your Showit site before you can manage redirects.
2. Step 2 — Click Edit next to your domain name. When the Site Settings window opens, find your domain name and click Edit next to it.
3. Step 3 — Open the redirect settings. In the Update Domain window, click the gear icon near the top. This opens the redirect management area.
4. Step 4 — Add your redirect. Enter the old page slug in the first field — this is the part of the URL after your domain name. For example, if the old URL was yoursite.com/old-page-name, enter old-page-name. Then enter the destination URL where the old URL should forward to.
5. Step 5 — Destination URL format. The destination can be a full URL like https://yoursite.com/new-page-name, or just the page slug like new-page-name. If the destination URL has more than one level after the domain (like yoursite.com/blog/post-name), use the full URL path rather than just the slug.
6. Step 6 — Click Add. Your redirect will be added to the list of redirects below. It will go live the next time you publish your site.
7. Step 7 — Publish your site. Click Publish in Showit to make the redirect live.
8. Step 8 — Run a fresh scan in FastaSEO. After publishing, run a fresh scan in FastaSEO to confirm the old URL is no longer returning a 404 error.
What's the issue
A redirect tells browsers and Google: this page has moved. When someone visits the old URL, they're sent straight to the new one without seeing an error. This protects any SEO value the old URL had built up and prevents broken links from frustrating visitors. Any time you change a page slug in Showit, you should set up a redirect from the old URL to the new one.
Why it matters
- When you change a URL, Google has already indexed the old one. Without a redirect, that indexed page returns a 404 — which is a dead end for anyone who finds it in search results, and a signal to Google that your site has broken pages. A redirect preserves the SEO value of the old URL and passes it to the new one, meaning you don't lose the ranking progress you've built. It also means any bookmarks, social media links, or external links pointing to the old URL will still work.
What good looks like
Every changed or deleted page URL has a redirect in place pointing to the most relevant new URL. No 404 errors appear in FastaSEO or Google Search Console. Old URLs forward visitors and Google to the correct destination.
How long this takes
Adding a redirect in Showit takes around five minutes per URL once you have the old and new URLs ready.
